According to the Common European Framework

The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) establishes a six-level scale used for organizing language learning and standardizing the different qualifications issued by certified entities.

A A: Basic User
A1 Beginner / Breakthrough
A2 Elementary / Waystage

A1 Beginner / Breakthrough
A2 Elementary / Waystage

Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases. Can introduce themselves and others, and ask/answer questions about personal details. Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g., shopping, family, local geography). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks.

B B: Independent User
B1 Intermediate / Threshold

B1 Intermediate / Threshold

Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters (work, school, leisure). Can deal with most situations likely to arise while traveling. Can produce simple connected text on familiar topics.

B2 Upper Intermediate / Vantage

B2 Upper Intermediate / Vantage

Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.

C C: Proficient UserLevel
C1 Advanced

C1 Advanced

Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts and recognize implicit meaning. Can express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much searching for expressions. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic, and professional purposes.

C2 Mastery / Proficiency

C2 Mastery / Proficiency

Can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. Can express themselves spontaneously, very fluently, and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning in complex situations. This level is considered mastery of the language.
