What is the DELE?
DELE Spanish Diplomas are official titles certifying degree of competence and mastery of the Spanish language, granted by Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.
The Instituto Cervantes organizes examination sessions all over Spain and the world.
DELE is an official certificate which has a valid international recognition by companies, universities, institutions, etc. and certifies your level of Spanish. Its validity does not expire, so you can use it throughout your professional career.
If you would like to take a Master or a university degree, with this certificate you can access any private or public university. Also, if you are in the process of obtaining the Spanish nationality, one of the requirements you need is the certificate of Level A2 (only for citizens of non-speaking Spanish countries). You will obtain a certificate of the second most spoken language worldwide.
DELE Spanish Diplomas are divided into six levels:
- Spanish Diploma Level A1 (Breakthrough)
- Spanish Diploma Level A2 (Waystage)
- Spanish Diploma Level B1 (Threshold)
- Spanish Diploma Level B2 (Vantage)
- Spanish Diploma Level C1 (Effective Operational Proficiency)
- Spanish Diploma Level C2 (Mastery)
In both the case of the general DELE exams and the school exams, the DELE Spanish Diplomas have official validity, indefinite validity and international recognition.
Recognition of DELE diplomas.
DELE diplomas are internationally recognized and highly prestigious, not only among public and private educational institutions and authorities but also in the business world and among chambers of commerce. They are an official guarantee of the assessment and certification of Spanish language proficiency.
In many countries, the DELE exams have been adopted by educational authorities and schools as a complement to their own assessment programs. They are ideal for facilitating career advancement and access to education both in Spain and in the other countries where the exams are administered.
In Spain, DELE diplomas are recognized by national, regional and local institutions and organizations, such as:
- Spanish Ministry of Justice: DELE A2 or higher for the Spanish language knowledge requirement in Spanish nationality application processes for people from non-Spanish speaking countries or territories.
- Ministry of Health: DELE C1 or C2 for access to MIR, FIR places.
- Recognition of studies completed in another country: people who have a DELE C2 and join the Spanish education system through the validation of studies completed in another country will be exempt from taking other Spanish language proficiency tests.
- General State Administration and public bodies: The Spanish diplomas (DELE) are considered sufficient accreditation of competence in Spanish for any professional or academic activity in Spain for which the corresponding level of competence is required.
- In France, DELE diplomas are recognized by the French Ministry of Education.
